The game is kind of special as the proceeds of the 50/50 will be donated to Wayne Spin in aid of his recovery. Wayne is a long time junior hockey fan and supporter in Kings County. He was a major part of several junior hockey teams and island champions from the Kings County area.
The Maniacs start the playoffs with high expectations after a great regular season. They finished second in the standings just four points back of Kensington. The recent awards for the league were announced and the Maniacs were very well represented. They collected awards for: most points, most assists and second team all-star (Matt Myers);
most goals, best first year junior and second team all-star (Damon MacDonald);
athletic and academic award and first team all-star (Matt Cox);
best defensive forward (Matt Higgins);
coach of the year (Gerald MacNeil), and;
manager of the year (Mark Baker and Jeff MacLeod)
The Maniacs goaltenders Geoff Gaudet and Tyler Whiffen have been great throughout the year and ended the year on a three game winning streak.
Tyler Whiffen just came back from a stint with Armada of the QMJHL in which he played two games and only allowed three goals on over 50 shots against. The Maniacs hope to have a great crowd on Friday night to help support Wayne Spin and family. Game two of the series will also be in Montague on Sunday at 7:30. | ||
