Canes/Vipers to Battle for First

The Holland College Junior Hurricanes (11-7-1) and the Kensington Vipers (12-2-1) are set to face-off on Thursday at 8pm at the Pownal Sports Centre; the teams are separated by just two points for top spot in the Island Junior Hockey League with Kensington having four games in-hand.
 
These two teams have played each other on four separate occasions so far this season; the Vipers lead the season series 3-0-1.
 
The Hurricanes will be relying on three of the most potent scorers in the league to provide their offence, Parker Diamond, Jonny Richards and Patrick Cummiskey.
 
Diamond, currently third in IJHL scoring has 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists) in 19 games played, Richards sits in fourth in IJHL scoring with 26 points (8 goals, 18 assists) in 18 games played and Cummiskey is in sixth in IJHL scoring with 25 points (17 goals, 8 assists) in 18 games played.
 
For the Vipers, Kyle Doucette leads his team in scoring with 22 points (14 goals, 8 assists) in 15 games played; he sits in eighth in league scoring.
 
Grant Grady has led the way in goal for Kensington this season, posting the top numbers in the league with an 8-1 record in ten games played; his goals-against-average of 2.33 is the tops in the league as is his .929 save percentage.
 
The Hurricanes goaltending duties has been split between Jarrett Ross and Dan McCarthy so far this season; Ross playing in 11 games while McCarthy seeing action in six games.
 
Ross has a 5-4 record with a .902 save percentage and 3.93 goals-against-average this season while McCarthy is 4-2 with a 3.83 goals-against-average and an .880 save percentage.
 
Thursday night's game is the final Junior Hurricanes home game for 2014; they will play Saturday in Montague at 7:30pm versus the Maniacs before visiting the Vipers to finish their pre-Christmas play with a Sunday night game at 8pm at Kensington Community Gardens.
 
The Hurricanes coaching staff will have to be creative with their lines over the next three games with Bryce Abraham, Nick MacDonald and Dalton MacDonald all missing action with upper body injuries while Alex Seyforth and Andrew Skinner are both serving suspensions.

After Sunday's road game the Hurricanes will go on their annual holiday break; they will return to action on Thursday, January 8th when they host the Kensington Vipers once again at 8pm at the Pownal Sports Centre.
