All six IJHL teams participated in the 2012 Expansion and Midget Entry Draft on Monday, June 18th at ISE's Sports Bar in Charlottetown.   The league expanded to six in 2012-13 with the addition of the Holland College Junior Hurricanes who participated in the Razzy's Junior C Hockey League the past two seasons.  The Hurricanes were able to select 10 players from the other five member teams in the league in the 2012 Expansion Draft and also participated in the 2012 Midget Entry-Level Draft with the number one overall pick.  The Montague Maniacs also participated in the draft and will return to the league after a year of absence in 2011-12.
